Gaming giant Sony has apologised for a selection of GTA 5 leaks just weeks ahead of the game’s formal unveiling next month.

Issuing an apology to publisher Rockstar, Sony has acknowledged its fault in prematurely confirming a selection of GTA 5 features, with the game’s main theme and soundtrack prematurely confirmed ahead of launch.  The GTA 5 release date is set for September 17.

Allowing gamers to digitally pre-order the eagerly awaited title, those splashing the cash early on the next instalment to the Grand Theft Auto franchise were inadvertently made privy to a selection of secretive GTA 5 details.

Regrettably, some people who downloaded the digital pre-order of Grand Theft Auto V through the PlayStation Store in Europe were able to access certain GTA V assets,” Sid Shuman, Sony Computer Entertainment’s Social Media Manager stated in a post on the company’s official blog.

It added: “These assets were posted online. We have since removed the digital pre-order file from the PlayStation Store in Europe.”
With GTA 5 expected to be one of the year’s biggest releases, Sony’s apology sees the company attempt to mend bridges with one of the industry’s biggest publishers, as well as gamers.

“We sincerely apologize to Rockstar and GTA fans across the world who were exposed to the spoiler content,£ Sony’s statement added.
“GTA V is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year with a very passionate following, and we’re looking forward to a historic launch on September 17.”
